By topically applying a carefully chosen acid to the skin, a chemical peel creates a controlled shedding of the upper layers of the skin. It helps to loosen up the dead skin cells that bond with the oils secreted by over-active oil glands, therefore not allowing the skin to block up. This reduces the environment for the growth of acne bacteria. It also forces your body to replace these layers with new, healthier skin cells. Chemical peel treatment can be performed on the face, neck, chest, arms, hands, and back.

How does it work?

After thoroughly cleaning the area to be treated, the peel is chosen – usually glycolic and salicylic peels work best for acne prone skin. The peel is applied to the area and left on for anywhere from 1-10 minutes, depending on skin sensitivity. When the time is up, the peel is neutralised and then washed off. A light soothing mask is applied to the area and is left on for approximately 5 minutes. The mask is then washed off and a soothing lotion is applied.

What can I expect after treatment?

There is very little downtime following a peel. Your skin may be slightly red for a few hours after the peel, and minimal peeling may occur for a few days after treatment. However, this peeling is very light and not really visible to the naked eye. You will be required to follow a gentle cleansing and moisturising regime for 24-48 hours after the peel before going back to your regular skin care routine. Sun protection is a must!

What are the benefits?

  • Reduction in visible acne and pore size
  • Dull skin changes to vibrant more healthy looking skin
